1 p.m.: inflections in dub with ahdri zhina mandiela   $25

inflections in dub: a dub theatre workshop, stimulating the imagistic and the visceral content of language. This workshop includes using old and newly formed poetry to generate live / multi-dimensional performance experiences.

Participants are requested to bring previously written, performed, or recorded poetry, as well as prepare to participate in group activities intended to generate and activate impromptu material. The three-hour workshop will include exploration of ideas and techniques suited to individual and group vocalizing and staging; as well as executing impromptu and rehearsed performance.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 15

10 a.m.: Finding your Poetic Voice with reg e gaines $25

reg e gaines, Grand Slam Champ, two time Tony Award nominee, and Artistic Director of Scratch Theatrical, leads "Finding your Poetic Voice" — a performance poetry workshop which examines the value of learning, by heart, the poems of other poets. This technique helps the writer / performer find strengths and weaknesses in both their own writing and performing.

reg takes us on a poetical journey which helps aspiring writers and performers understand solid technical devices used during the construction of poems, and which then lend themselves to the performance of the text.

Performing and analyze some of his favorite poets' work as well as using his own poetry as examples of inspiration, reg will illustrate how he found his own voice. Participants should come prepared to read / recite / discuss a poem by a poet they know by heart, or one they would like to learn, as well as a poem they've written in response to another poet's poem.

1 p.m.: Poetry and Passion with Andrea Thompson   $25

"Poetry & Passion" is a workshop using the tools of writing, editing and performance to help develop the art of speaking from the heart.

What does it mean, to speak from the heart? Is it some esoteric New Age slogan? Does it mean blabbering on tearfully in an incoherent out-pouring of emotion? No, it means starting with your feelings, and using that as a base, upon which you build. Your feelings are your rocket fuel. Your words are the rocket.

All you will need is a pen and notebook or journal, and your self. Bring along whatever you are experiencing in your life right now.

The goal of this workshop is to give passion and focus to both your spoken and written words through the combination of inspiration, revelation and experimentation.
